Question
No, not fire-rated.
Shipping containers are made of Corten steel, which has a high melting point of around 1,400°C. They will not catch fire and will resist short exposure to flame. However, contents inside can ignite and burn. Standard containers are not rated as fireproof safes. Special fire-resistant conversions exist for fuel and chemical storage.
Did you know?
Steel does not burn, but it loses strength as temperatures rise. In a severe fire, a steel container can survive while the contents inside are completely destroyed.
